Truth Love and Courage

Today is Love

This third trinity has no traditional holiday like the other three, which are anchored by the Solstice, Christmas and New Years. I have three simple but comprehensive values that guide my life and that I am willing to accept on faith, so I made these the principals of this orphan trinity.

The primary value is Truth. Having faith in the positive quality of the truth is a recursive self-correcting value. The essence of science, the way of Truth assures that one stays in sync with reality, and makes Truth the most essential of beliefs.

The second is Love.  I can’t really prove that Love is a fundamentally positive quality. There are certainly cynics and republicans who claim that love is a sucker bet, at least as a broader concept (I know they love their kids, wives, mistresses and guns), that it only enables the takers. But the effects I see love creating in my local world are just so relentlessly positive, and the joy it brings to our hearts just so undeniable, that I choose to believe that it deserves to be a primary signpost pointing toward an increasing quality of life.

Finally is Courage. Evolution has armed us with emotions like fear and guilt to spur caution and protect us from the myriad dangers our fragile lives confront almost hourly. But especially in this modern world, where so many threats are now obsolete or barred behind technological bulwarks, we seem more often to be crippled by these emotions. Too often our growth, our progress, is halted by our own psyches, trapped by paleolithic timidity, keeping our heads down. But we need to look forward, to step into the unknown to become better, to discover new ways to cope, to achieve, and to do this we need the Courage to stand down these obsolete fears.

So, Happy Holly Days, with the hope that you to can find the Courage to live with Love and seek the Truth.
