These last three are the Days of Awesomeness. Atonement means a bit more than just a sorry, though that is certainly a start. Really taking responsibility for our errors, owning them and trying to make it right, however we can, is the essence of it, and once again, one of the keys to healing.

Too often, a cynical view may see an apology and an offer of reparation as a sign of weakness, even an invitation to take advantage. I don’t care if an apology may make me more of a loser. WTF are we trying to win? I’m trying to find peace in my heart and joy in my life, not to be king of the hill. From what I’ve seen, that guy on top, assaulted from all sides by other others trying to unseat him, has a pretty shitty lot.
I’d sooner stake out comfortable spot on the side of the hill with a nice view. And if excusing myself and offering a hand up to everyone who stumbles over one of my stakes makes me a chump in their eyes, fine. My self respect, and the other self respecting folk who appreciate the hand up, may become my friends, and we can have a lovely party watching the sunset while the others, up on top of the hill, bloody each others’ noses.
So today, take a long hard look at your year. Where did you fail to live up to your better aspirations? What hateful rumor did you repost? How can you do better, who may you have hurt, how can you fix that? But don’t beat yourself up, just make a plan on how you can do better, and make a commitment to it.
Happy Holly Days.
